The Cure to Boredom by Guru Scott

“Don’t waste your Boredom on Silly things like TV. Use it to your advantage.”

First, what is boredom?

Boredom happens when we are mentally aroused but nothing seems worthy of that energy. For example, sitting in your room, you feel like you want to do something but nothing around you seems to lead to your deep desired goals. Boredom can also be a sign of frustrations with one’s surroundings. Thus, we have two types:

  • Type 1: Having energy and nothing worth doing.
  • Type 2: Things that are not interesting but are happening such as a teacher or friend talking a lot.

Second, what is the cure?

My cure would be to use the mindful gaze meditation. How to do this? You would find a point on the wall or on something neutral and relax the body, listen, and experience as much of the things around you. Then, you have to see how long you can go. Using a clock, you note the start time and see how long you can go. When thoughts come, let them go and continue as long as you can.

  • Type 1 Cure Example: Sitting in your room, you find nothing valuable to do. You get a clock and stare, relax, and absorb the experience as long as you can.
  • Type 2 Cure Example: You are in class and things are really not interesting, find a point behind the teacher and relax the body and absorb all that you can.

Third, What are the effects?

The effects of this practice will increase your health and bring new ideas/experiences that would have been overlooked by the conscious mind.

  • Type 1 Effect: This will bring you into a deep meditation if you can do it for a while and frequently (it is a skill). Within this meditation, you will find many things to do that align with your soul purpose. It will come if you have the power to resist moving.
  • Type 2 Effect: You will learn about all the crazy experiences that happen in a classroom or place. It will bring great amusement to see all the elements flowing around. Also, it could give you the time to connect what is being said to things you are interested in.

Conclusion:

Try mindful gaze meditation and let me know if it works for you. We normally are told what to do by society, and we just go along with the script. It is best to always allow our hearts and soul to guide us. Then, we will not waste time on things that eventually make us bored.
